Options apply to encoding text and files. Decoding accepts standard and URL-safe Base64, with or without padding, and ignores whitespace. Data URLs always use standard, padded Base64 without wrapping.

Encode Unicode text as UTF-8

Base64 encodes bytes, not characters. This tool first converts your text into UTF-8 bytes, then represents those bytes as Base64. Accented letters, Chinese, Japanese, and emoji work without manually escaping characters.

  1. Type or paste plain text, including any intended spaces and line breaks.
  2. Select Encode to Base64. For short edits, you can enable Live conversion.
  3. Copy the Base64 result or download base64.txt. Use Swap to decode the result back to text.

Text to Base64 example

CaféQ2Fmw6k=

Café has four Unicode characters but five UTF-8 bytes: é uses two bytes. Different text encodings produce different Base64 values.

Spaces and line endings matter

A trailing space or newline changes the encoded bytes. Browser textareas normalize line endings to LF. If you need to preserve a text file’s original CRLF bytes or byte-order mark exactly, use File to Base64 instead of pasting its contents.

All conversions run locally in your browser. No input, files, filenames, or results are uploaded or saved by Base64Baboon. Copies and downloads you request are yours to manage. Read the privacy details. Base64 is encoding, not encryption.

THE SHORT ANSWERS

Text to Base64 FAQ

Does Base64 support Unicode?

Base64 can represent any bytes. Base64Baboon uses UTF-8 for text, which supports Unicode characters including emoji. The receiving application should decode the result as UTF-8 too.

Why does my result differ from another encoder?

Check the original text, character encoding, trailing whitespace, line endings, and padding settings. This editor uses UTF-8, not Latin-1 or UTF-16.

How much text can I paste?

The editor accepts up to 8,388,608 UTF-16 code units. Live conversion pauses above 262,144 code units; manual conversion remains available. Browser memory still matters.
